Foris Telecom Participates in the Connect Commonwealth of Independent States Summit

Representatives of Foris Telecom, a wireless broadband mobile WiMAX carrier and Internet Service Provider that deploys and operates scalable, low cost, wireless data networks in emerging markets, attended the 2009 Connect Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Summit in Minsk, Belarus. The Summit, hosted by the President of the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Alexander Lukashenko, brought together some 400 participants attracting leaders from the neighbouring states, governments, industry, and financial institutions.

The overall objective of the Connect CIS Summit is to mobilize the human, financial and technical resources required to support a rapid, region-wide transition to digital infrastructure and services, widely recognized as the engine of future employment, economic growth and social and economic development. The Summit offered a venue for leaders from the public and private sectors as well as international and regional financing and development agencies to network face-to-face and to forge new partnerships.

Dr. Yonathan Mizrachi, Digital Inclusion and e-Government officer at Foris Telecom, served as a panelist on a session entitled "Strengthening a Knowledge-based Society”. The members of this panel examined how CIS countries can best invest in and build upon their human capital strengths to advance skills that serve as the essential ingredients for building a knowledge-based society. "Our mission as a global leader providing wireless mobile broadband services to emerging markets is to bring the benefits of affordable, reliable, and easily accessible high-speed internet to millions of untapped potential users worldwide,” explains Dr. Mizrachi. "We partner with governments, NGOs, and the private sector in developing countries to foster their transition to information societies. Foris Telecom is playing a pivotal role in bridging digital divides amongst the world's populations.” A taped Webcast of this session is available at: http://www.foristel.com/vault/video/Yoni-Mizrachi-Foris-Telecom-WiMax-Connect-CIS-Minsk-Belarus-November-2009.wmv
